Semester 2 Week 13 Open Studios overview

OPEN STUDIOS

Presenting the behavioural glyph system in a live setting

Open Studios was the first time the project existed fully outside of my control. People interacted with the tool, flipped through the zines, tested the stamps, and asked questions in real time. It shifted the project from something I was building into something others could experience and respond to directly.

Observing real user interaction

Understanding how people navigate the tool, where they hesitate, and what draws their attention without guidance.

Collecting and structuring feedback

Gathering responses through conversation and post-its, then organising them into patterns that can inform the next stage.

Reflecting on system clarity and potential

Identifying what feels resolved and what still needs to be clarified, especially around meaning and application.

Live presentation

The project becoming public

I had the chance to speak with people from the industry as well as peers, and the overall response was positive. Many were drawn to the connection between handwriting behaviour and visual output, and the combination of digital tool and physical collaterals helped make the system easier to understand.

The setup as a whole felt coherent, and people were able to move between interaction, observation, and outcome naturally.

[ Gathering feedback ]

Post-it responses

Capturing immediate reactions

After the interactions, I collected written feedback through post-its. This allowed people to respond more casually and honestly, without needing to frame their thoughts formally. The responses captured both immediate reactions and more considered reflections.

[ Analysing feedback ]

Feedback themes

Turning scattered responses into patterns

I then organised the feedback into six distinct themes. This helped me move away from individual comments and start seeing patterns across different responses. Some feedback focused on clarity of the system, while others pointed towards potential applications and future directions.

This step was important because it turned scattered reactions into something I could actually work with. Instead of reacting to each comment separately, I could begin to see where the project was consistently understood, and where it needed strengthening.

[ Next step ]

Prepare for Viva

Plan final presentation set-up structure. Decide on physcial or digital format Catlogue of Making.

[ Next step ]

Refine interaction

Improve how users understand and navigate the tool without explanation, focusing on clarity and flow.

[ Next step ]

Final Video

Improve on Open Studios video to create a final project video that captures the essence of the system and its interaction.
